UNOH's Vargas Named Men's Golfer of the Week
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its latest Men's Golf Player of the Week award, presented by Tarkett Sports Construction. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information departments and selected via a vote by conference SIDs.
This week's honor heads to Lima as Jose Luis Vargas of the University of Northwestern Ohio earns the accolade following a consistent, under-par performance against one of the most elite fields in the country.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Jose Luis Vargas, UNOH
(Jr. - Santa Cruz, Bolivia)
Jose Luis Vargas claims Men's Golfer of the Week honors after a masterful performance at the Music City Classic. Competing in a loaded field that featured nine Top 25 teams and two others receiving votes, Vargas proved his elite status by carding under-par scores in all three rounds. Navigating the 6,992-yard, par-72 course, he opened with a 1-under 71, followed it with a 3-under 69, and closed with a 2-under 70.
His 6-under-par total of 210 earned him a T-8th finish in a massive field of 105 golfers. Vargas' steady play led the Racers to a 4th-place team finish out of 21 programs, notably besting seven nationally ranked opponents in the process.
