Ferguson and Redmond Earn Baseball Weekly Honors

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its latest Baseball Player of the Week awards, presented by Tarkett Sports Construction. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions and selected via a vote by the conference's sports information directors.

This week's honors recognize a massive offensive outburst from Indiana Tech and a dominant, high-strikeout week on the mound for Rochester Christian.

Baseball Player of the Week

Jack Ferguson, Indiana Tech

(Jr., INF - Indianapolis, Ind.)

Jack Ferguson takes home Player of the Week honors after a phenomenal seven-game stretch where he served as the focal point of the Warriors' high-powered offense. Ferguson hit .526 (10-for-19) and posted a massive 1.263 slugging percentage. His power was on full display as he blasted 4 home runs and 2 doubles, driving in 17 RBIs while scoring 7 runs.

Ferguson was a master at reaching base, adding 3 walks and 5 hit-by-pitches to finish the week with a .667 on-base percentage. Defensively, he was nearly perfect in the field, recording 33 putouts and 3 assists to help Indiana Tech to a 5-2 week.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Matthew Redmond, Rochester Christian (Mich.)

(So., P)

Sophomore Matthew Redmond earns Pitcher of the Week accolades after providing two stellar outings for the Warriors. Redmond totaled 13.0 innings of work, finishing the week with a 2.57 ERA and a crisp 1.00 WHIP.

Redmond was a strikeout machine, fanning 19 batters across two appearances (13.15 K/9). He tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game victory over Madonna and followed that up by tossing six scoreless innings in a 14-inning marathon against Siena Heights. Over the two games, he surrendered only eight hits and five walks.
