Walker, Mich. - The Panthers entered seven WHAC Jamborees this fall and the Panthers won all seven times. Today, DU completed the WHAC sweep with a convincing finish to claim their third straight WHAC Crown. The individual title for the second straight year also went to a Panthers golfer as Nick Boone posted a season average of 70.8. After winning the last two WHAC Championships, the Panthers entered this season knowing a third crown would give them an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in May of 2009. Today, the Panthers played one of their best rounds of golf as they posted an 8-under par 280 to claim its 7th straight WHAC Jamboree as they claimed all 49 points. Finishing in a tie for second today and an overall second place finish in the conference was Madonna University who finished with 36 points. Closely behind the Crusaders was Cornerstone with 35 points and the Golden Eagles were followed by Indiana Tech (28), Siena Heights (21), Aquinas (20) and Concordia (7). Nick Boone, who earned the WHAC Individual Championship, saved his best for last as he finished his WHAC career with a 67 at the Highlands in Walker, MI. Boone finished the WHAC season with a record breaking scoring average of 70.8. Boone was followed today by Kevin Palmer who shot a 3-under 69 en route to his second place overall finish in the conference with a WHAC average of 72.1. DU ended up placing 5 of their 6 golfers on the All-WHAC 1st Team as Jeff Gelinas (73.8), Kale Waaso (74.4) and Zac Bested (75.1) joined their two teammates on the team. Adam Thomas, the Panthers sixth golfer, came in 8th place overall in the WHAC standings just .2 away from the Top-6. Also earning All-WHAC 1st Team Honors was Madonna University's Steve South who finished with a season scoring average of 73.7 which was good enough for a 3rd place overall finish behind Boone and Palmer. Earning All-WHAC Honorable Mention Honors along side of DU's Thomas were Cornerstone's Alex Lanning and Chet Vandenberg, Indiana Tech's Mike Kasperski, Siena Heights' Jack Garswood and Madonna's Kyle Lowery. Phil Sweeney of Davenport earned WHAC Coach of the Year Honors as he led his team to its third straight championship and second straight bid to the NAIA National Championship. The team score of 280 ties the WHAC scoring record that the Panthers set last week and also ties a school record for Davenport University. DU has now won 13 of the last 14 WHAC Jamborees dating back to last season and will carry this momentum into the last few weeks of the fall season.
