Gemma Cowperthwaite and Katelyn Hawarny led Siena Heights to a 2-0 week en route to winning WHAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending Oct. 5, 2008. A native of Sterling Heights, Mich., Cowperthwaite controlled both games from the middle of the field for Siena Heights University (Mich.). Of the eight goals scored, the junior midfielder played a part in five to earn the WHAC offensive honor. She scored one goal and had two assists in a 4-0 win against Indiana Institute of Technology and added another goal and another assist during a 4-1 victory over Davenport University (Mich.) for a total of seven points. Hawarny, defender from Troy, Mich., led a defense that allowed just one goal in the two victories. The freshman also scored her first collegiate goal during the win against Davenport. The two victories propelled Siena head coach Scott Oliver into the 100-win club. The Saints improved to 7-3-1 on the year, 4-1-1 in conference play. |
